In layered gaze, Okun's recent series, the body becomes the physical expression of internal experience, where color and form evoke complex psychological spaces. Beginning with charcoal marks followed by layers of acrylic paint, my process uses nested, geometric spaces —rooms within rooms referencing windows or paintings within paintings—as containers for experience, history, and internal landscapes.

The figures are caught in states of looking and perceiving, navigating the weight of memory, balancing vulnerability, or participating in the act of mutual witnessing. Treating the figure as a vessel for an unfolding identity rather than a subject, Okun's work  explores how we reveal and protect our innermost selves. The layered surfaces and evocative palettes challenge the boundary between the observer and the observed, exploring the silent dialogues between figures, what it means to be seen, and how we hold space for ourselves and for others
